I still remember when I started this podcast with NO clue what I was doing, and I would travel around Toronto on public transit and show up at people's studios, offices, apartments and bring them to my tiny bachelors apartment to record with a $150 microphone.

Welcome back and happy 2024. Oh my goodness. We are here. We made it to a brand new year and I'm back on the mic. I haven't been here for a few weeks, and so some of you may have noticed, some of you actually may already know why and have allowed me the gift of time to just step back for the first time in man, almost eight years since starting my business. So I didn't fully disappear. I'm still showing up on Instagram. I'm still actively involved in our mastermind community.
But I have significantly scaled back my business operations just for a short period of time, a couple of months. And I'm going to share why in this episode. And I'm also going to give you a full on update. So I almost don't know where to begin. I'm feeling all the. Feels all the emotions as I sit down to record this. It's basically a snow day here in Ontario where I live. The snow is dumping down.
I got out on a beautiful walk this morning and my plans with my girlfriend actually got canceled because the roads are not the safest to be driving on right now. But that has afforded me the time to actually sit here and reconnect with all of you, my community of visionary life listeners. And so whether you are a longtime listener, maybe you have listened to all 350 episodes, all twelve seasons of the show. Yes, we are on season 13. Kind of hard to believe. Or maybe you're a new listener because you found me based on my new journey, which I'll describe shortly. Or maybe you've just recently subscribed to the podcast. Just know that I'm so stoked that you're here.
Welcome. There's so many amazing episodes in the archive. We've interviewed Joy McCarthy, who is a holistic nutritionist who's built an amazing personal brand. We have interviewed the Neal brothers, who you've probably purchased their products at your local grocery stores. I could go on, but just scroll back in the archives, and I'm so proud of all of the content we've created.
Okay, so let me set the stage. I mentioned it's a snow day, but there's also something else very different about this recording situation that I find myself in, and that is that I have a sleeping baby on my lap. Yes. It makes me emotional to say this, so I had a baby almost one month ago. What a freaking experience. Oh, my gosh. So I found out I was pregnant in March of 2023 after a miscarriage in January of 2023. So this is extra special to be looking at our little guy.
His name is Frederick, or we're calling him Freddy. And side note, we recently found out that the name Fritz is a nickname for Freddy. And I mentioned that to my dad yesterday. My dad comes from german heritage, and Frederick's name is of german origin. And he said, yeah, of course, most Fredericks in Germany go by Fritz. So we found a new nickname for our little dude yesterday, which was kind of fun. I don't know if we'll run with Fritz or not. But anyways, so long story short, and I will do a lot more content and episodes around my birth story and musings as a new mama.
But we did have a baby on Christmas day. Now, isn't it so funny, the power of what we put out into the universe? Because I distinctly remember thinking as we were trying to conceive and as I was pregnant, and as I found out I was pregnant in January with my first pregnancy that didn't work out, I was like, oh, well, at least we're not going to have a December baby, or I don't want to have a December baby. And whether I actually ever said that out loud, I'm not sure. But I feel like subconsciously there's this story that we don't want to have babies around Christmas, which in retrospect, I'm, like, plugging Freddie's ears right now is totally effed up, especially after miscarriage. I'm like, who cares? Every baby is a blessing. And this whole storyline that December babies are somehow behind, it's so od because the more I've really thought about it, and maybe it's because I'm biased now, I'm the mama to a Christmas baby. But it's funny because it's, like, behind. Compared to what? Like, time is a construct the grades of school systems are a construct so behind based on their January classmates, but they're ahead compared to everyone younger than them.
And the fact that we're comparing them just to kids in a calendar year, it's like, well, of course, that kid was born six months ahead of my son. So, anyways, long story short, we found out we were pregnant. My original due date was December 14, at least from what I calculated based on conception. Then when they measured the size of the baby at one of my ultrasounds, they bumped it to December 18. And then I went into labor on Christmas Eve, and then he was born on December 25. So here we go. We have a baby with the rarest birthday out of all 365 birthdays. We have a capricorn on our hands.
And if anyone is really into astrology signs, let me know what Capricorn means. I know I've talked to my friend Kate. Shout out to Kate. She listens to the podcast, my friend Greg, and they've told me some interesting, fun stuff about capricorns. But it's now fun looking at this little human to look into their astrology and to learn more about them, especially as I figure him out just by spending time with him. Anyways, baby in tow, we are smitten. The first 30 days have been pure bliss, pure magic. Life was kind of on pause because when you have a baby over the holiday, nobody's working.
Everybody's like, indoors, cozy Christmas socials. And because our baby came on the 25th, we kind of skipped all of our family outings. Of course, we were in the hospital the 25th, 26th, and then we were just indoors and I was recovering. I couldn't leave the house for a couple of weeks, so what a special time to have a baby. I remember my former client, Britt Cox shout out Britt from growing nutrition. She wrote me this beautiful paragraph because she had a December baby as well. And she said, I have the fondest memories of breastfeeding him. Looking out our window, the snow was falling, the street lights were on.
And every evening I get to have that experience. And it honestly feels like magic to be having Freddie on my boob and just experiencing the joys of a winter baby. So my freaking goodness. So much has changed, and I've really wrestled with how much of this do I want to bring into my work? You guys know I have the podcast. I send out an email newsletter. I'm very active on Instagram, and I have a lot of different marketing efforts and initiatives that I put out there and my work that I get paid for is as a marketing consultant, as a business coach, as a community curator of entrepreneurs, especially female entrepreneurs, in our mastermind. And I've often thought over the last well since finding out I was pregnant. Does this mix into my content? And should I be hiding this part of myself? And will this tarnish my brand and my reputation as a marketing consultant? Where do I draw the line between personal and professional sharing? But as I look back on my journey, I've been on Instagram over ten years and it's always been a mess of marketing adventure, lifestyle, what's on my mind, what's topical, what's relevant.
I throw in nutrition because I'm a holistic nutritionist. I throw in travel because my husband and I, we love to explore places like Peru. We love to explore places like Nicaragua. We love going on ski and snowboarding trips. And I think what I've boiled it all down to is like, I am a multifaceted person, and that's how I want to navigate this next chapter. Yes, the work I do is in marketing and business consulting, but what I really do beyond that is show people how to live and lead their most visionary life. That's the name of this podcast, right? Work is only one part of our life. Work is only one part of my life.
And although up until this point, it has been such a dominant part of my life, I am now a mama. And so it's like my capacity and my heart has grown, and now I can hold space for all my clients and my business community and for my child, right? And for the children that Freddie gets to grow up with and my friends who have kids. And it's not like I want to shelter any part of myself. And I want to share this whole journey with you guys as much as feels comfortable for me. I mean, oftentimes I don't share things in real time, especially with something like my pregnancy. I kept it secret from all my content for seven months. So not until I was in my third trimester did I actually share with the online world. But of course, anyone who knows me in person, who hangs out with me, all my friends, family, they found out right away.
So nothing's a secret. It's just I often want to protect what's right in front of me and share with the online virtual world when the time feels right. And I'm going to do the same in this next chapter of my journey. So really excited with what's to come. So, all that to say, there's no real strategy behind how I am separating my work as a marketing professional and as a new mom and someone who loves adventure and lifestyle content, I just let it all blur together. Does the algorithm like that? No. Do people feel connected to me, and am I connecting with the right people at the right time? Hell yeah, I am. So that's that. Okay, so I want to give a quick update on what you guys can expect of season 13. So, yes, content is going to be a bit irregular while I take a 90 day maternity leave, or as I'm calling it, a maternity experience, because I'm not leaving, I'm not absent from my business, but content will be a bit irregular for January, February, and March.
So q one of 2024. Now, that's because I'm gifting myself the opportunity to be 95% present in my life and with Freddie. And my husband is back to work as of yesterday, he works full time, and therefore, I'm taking the role of caretaker for Freddie. And I'm so honored, and there's nothing I want more. And I've afforded myself the opportunity to do this because I've really never taken time off since starting my business. I've actually never taken time off since starting my working career. I graduated nutrition school, went right into a job working for law bloss, got fired. That's a whole other story.
My whole team got let go. Went right into a job working for Vega, which is one of Canada's top nutrition companies. Got let go from Vega. That's a whole other story, too. My whole team was restructured. So it's not me. That's the through line here. And immediately after that, started freelancing, went immediately into a full time job with Garden of life, another huge health food company.
Went immediately into freelancing and starting my own business. There have been no gaps. So this is the first time in eight years, or actually, I graduated nutrition school in 2013. So this is the first time in eleven years that I feel like I truly don't have to work 40 hours weeks, nor did I ever. But I've always had trouble dropping the employee construct of working a nine to five. Now I am working maybe 4 hours a week, and I imagine it'll be that way for years to come. And I'm still seeing the results come in. Like, I still have people applying to work with me.
We're still signing new members in our mastermind. So again, I've got a lot of mindset work to do here around what's actually possible as a mama who wants to be present for her kids. And I'm going to be sharing all that along the way. But season 13, when it kicks off, we have incredible guests. We are talking to birth professionals, people who are doulas, people who are in the world of helping mamas to navigate postpartum, because this is something I'm super passionate about. And we're going to learn about the business of birth. We are talking to people who have built huge health and wellness empires. We have branding experts coming on the podcast.
We have some of my closest friends who are in the online course space and membership space. So there's so much goodness to look forward to. I did pre record a lot of this for you guys, so I really can't wait to share that content. Until then, though, it will be irregular updates. So I do plan to share my birth story. I do potentially intend to share my miscarriage story in case it helps someone, because I recorded an episode immediately after I miscarried and I have not listened to it back. That was exactly a year ago. But I do intend to listen to it back.

All right, so I want to start with sharing a little bit of my vision for 2024. Like I mentioned, I am not just in a new chapter of life. I'm kind of opening a whole new book. Or on Christmas Day, I opened a whole new book.
And there are two entrepreneurs. That's the little guy sneezing. There are two entrepreneurs that I have followed for a while who have talked a lot about something called a vivid vision or a painted picture, and their names are Cameron Harold and Brian Scudemore. I'll actually put their information in the show notes alongside an article that you guys can read about what a painted picture or vivid vision is. But I want to start by reading you guys out what my perfect day is going to be looking like or what my vision is. And my vision really is rooted in having the best 24 hours cycle over and over and over again. And it's pretty simple at this point. So my vision is that each day I wake up at 05:30 a.m.
Feeling rested and feeling excited to get up. I have a few moments to myself and I brew an espresso in my Delongi espresso machine. I'm probably saying that brand wrong. I'm sipping it out of a beautiful ceramic mug and I start on some artist way morning pages. This is time where I let my brain in its theta waves just go through creation and writing and stream of consciousness stuff. And maybe an hour later, Dave and Freddie wake up. We all spend some time together. I brew Dave his coffee, I snuggle Freddy and we turn on some music and we have a family dance party while I prepare everybody's lunches.
And again, we're still just kind of moseying around the house, showering, sipping our coffee. From there we kind of head outside. We do a nature walk from about eight to 09:00 a.m. Maybe on that walk we share what we're grateful for and really just anchor in what's going well in our day. And we get our vitamin D on our faces, maybe harder in the winter. And then hopefully two days per week I have time to work on my business. Maybe we have some support or help coming over to the house to look after Freddie so that mama can have some focus time to work with her coaching clients. And three days out of the weekday, I am hanging out with Freddie.
We go do music class together. We go to fitness class together. We go on adventures and visit friends and drive into Toronto and see some of our friends that we had when we lived there. Or I go biking or running with him in the tooley, or I just explore and hang out around the home and cook and bake with him. And as I build my career, I am also building a beautiful life at home. And I know it's possible. And I'm excited to have this journey and to have this vision because I can see it really clearly. Even though all of the pieces haven't been worked out.
You know, on top of that vision, too, our weekends are protected to enjoy and to adventure. And the community that I build with Emily, our mastermind community, is our top priority. Her and I know that through that community, our community that meets every single Wednesday from one to 02:00 p.m. It's filled with incredible female entrepreneurs. We know that we can have the biggest impact through that community, that there's the most epic networking. We curate programming that is helping our members to grow and learn and reach beyond their current circumstances. And we coach them each week. And we have members who are winning big because they are now tapped into what's possible for them.One of our members just had her biggest month in business ever. She reached $18,000 in business, and her goal is to hit 100k in six months. And it's already unfolding. And she's been inside the mastermind for three weeks. So the vision is unfolding. It's beautiful. On our weekends, we do workouts together in the garage. We cook healthy meals and really nourish our bodies.
We have outdoor fires and just enjoy living on the water as we do right now. And that's a bit of my vision. Now, this kind of coincides with my word of the year. I don't know if, in navigating your own goal setting for 2024, if you set a word of the year, but because this year I didn't do as much formal goal setting, I just didn't know what motherhood would look like for me. Would I have time, would I have creative energy? And so at the end of 2023, with Freddie in my arms, I decided that I would simplify the whole process. Just choose one word of the year. And this year, I chose a word that would inspire and motivate me to be the best mama, the best friend, the best wife, the best entrepreneur. And that word is imaginative.
And I looked up the definition of imaginative, and it's defined as easily able to think of or to create new things, new and exciting things, actually. So, yes, please. To all of that, I am so looking forward to ease and excitement around creation of new, awesome life, of a new, awesome life, rather, that reflects exactly what I desire. So with my word in mind, I am brainstorming how I can implement it. How can I be more imaginative? How can I easily be able to think of or create new and exciting things? Really focus on that word, ease. If it feels easy, it's right for me, especially in this chapter of life. So that's my word of the year. It's going to guide me, even if my goal setting is less robust than in previous years.
But I'm really excited. And actually, I asked a bunch of you on Instagram what your word of the year was. Whoops. I just pulled up my instagram. Evie said her word of the year is driven. Melanie said her word of the year is rise. Who else? Chantel said her word of the year is free. Dana said her word of the year is free.
Jill said her word is creativity. Brooke said her word is nurture. Barb said her word is play. Becky said her word is absorb. What else? What else? What else? Jerry said her word is acceptance. So I love that so many of you actually did choose a word of the year. And truly, it was inspiring to read through what each of your words were. So now I want to shift a little bit into a recap of 2023.
Now, we've already looked forward. I've kind of shared what my intention is for the new year, what my word is for the new year, what my situation is, and it's all new. So planning hasn't been as easy. But one thing that I believe we can all do is reflect on how far we've come. So often we don't give ourselves permission to move forward with grace and ease based on how we have proven to ourselves that we can be successful in the past. And so I really took time this year to sit with all that happened in 2023 so that I could remind myself that no matter what, I am capable of pushing the gas pedal. I am capable of making shit happen when I need to. And so even if I am in a season of mothering and being more present in raising Freddie, I still know that if push comes to shove, if the creative energy is there, if the motivation is there, I know how to make shit happen.
So in 2023, I launched a group program with my business partner, and we launched live cohorts three times. We launched a cohort in February, in May, and in September, and we had over 30 students go through that course called Leap. We also launched an all female mastermind for graduates of leap and higher level female entrepreneurs. We started that in April. This is for only the woman who loves learning, who wants to be part of a networking group, who wants to be held accountable to a high standard, and who's looking to grow more than just her business, but also in her health. Her wealth, her values, her role as a mother, her role as holding space for so many others in her life, making the biggest impact while making the most money. It is for the mom who equally loves spending time in the kitchen, making sourdough as they do, creating content, recording podcasts and writing Instagram posts.
Right? We can have it all. As mothers, as women, that's what our mastermind is about. And people in our mastermind have launched sold out group programs. Like I mentioned, people are hitting insane financial goals, on track to hit 100k in six months. And there's just some really incredibly giving human beings. A lot of being part of the mastermind revolves around this quote that life gives to the giver. And so if you're willing to show up in a community with 14 other women and give over the knowledge that you have, whether it's on how to take a really beautiful photo, that's some people's expertise, or whether it's how to write a really good email, or how to know what supplements to take, because we have naturopathic doctors in the crew. So there's so many experts in this group that you're bound to get almost like a variety pack of exactly what you need.

But working with private clients is truly a bread and butter service of mine. I love it. It does not drain me, it energizes me. And I have tons of business owners who are looking to increase their revenue, figure out their marketing funnel, dissect what's broken in their business, and finally get the results they're looking for. I have a lot of people who come to me because it is hands on support and I absolutely love doing it. In 2023, I also launched two digital courses.
I launched Insta sales. That's all about how to sell on social media. You can find that on courses on my website, kelseyreidl.com. I also launched everyday SEO, which is how to appear on page one of Google when people are looking for businesses like yours. So that was really cool. We had some great successes out of those courses. In addition, I celebrated the fifth year of having a teammate who supports me at visionary hq. Many of you guys have interacted with the amazing Alex.
She is my right wing, she's our program manager. She's my support person. She has all the strengths that I don't in organization, and we've been working together since almost 2018, I believe. 2019. So that's pretty special to have such a long standing relationship with someone who does so much behind the scenes. Like I often have. People say to me, Kelsey, how are you so consistent? How do you do so much? Well, I do have help. Okay.
So I don't want to take credit for always being the one that is producing, because that's not realistic. I have support here, and if you guys ever want to hear a podcast on how her and I work together, how I pass along my ideas and she activates them, I can certainly share that. In addition, my revenue in the business increased from 2023 over 2022, not by a ton, but at least by, I think, 5%. So I was proud of that. I traveled to a professional mastermind in Park City, Utah. I was very proud of that. Invested the time and the money to get in the room of people who I had no business being in the room of. And that was a really neat opportunity.
I hope to create that for the visionary community soon. And I'm just figuring out where would that dream location for our retreat be? And personally, I traveled to Florida twice with my family and with my husband's family. Dave and I took a baby moon, I guess you call it, to New York City. And I will never regret that time. I know we hummed and hawed. Oh, should we take a trip to New York when I'm 36 weeks pregnant? And I'm so glad we did. And just booked the flights and booked an amazing hotel and ate the beautiful dinners, and we went to comedy both nights. And we just loved every minute of being with each other.
And that's time that you're not going to get back when you become parents in the best possible way. Right? And so if you're considering taking a last minute trip before you have your first baby, just do it. Always say yes to travel is what I've gathered. And all this time in 2023, I grew a human in my body. I was still doing all my favorite hobies. I paddleboarded all summer. I mountain biked all summer. I was so connected with our local community and just so grateful.I also got a chance to be pregnant and now to become a mom for the first or some of my friends. Second time with a lot of my closest girlfriends who live right around the corner from me. So lots to celebrate. Now, were there challenges? Of course there were challenges. Having a miscarriage this year or last year was devastating. Going through, becoming a mom while I'm still grieving my own mom. Devastating. We had some family challenges that were severe that we dealt with.
So there's a tendency, I think, to obviously listen to a podcast like this and be like, wow, your year was perfect. But without going into too much detail, there were some intense moments in the year, too. However, I know I am someone who is overly optimistic. I say overly. For me, it's the perfect level of optimism and I truly see the glass half full. But I would be remiss to say there were no hardships. So what can you guys expect? Or what am I up to in 2024? Well, I'm going with the flow. I'm really leaning into what this season is asking of me.
I picked up a book the other day called the Artist Way by Julia Cameron. It is an older book. Like, it's probably 30 years old at this point, but it's how to unleash a creative practice. And I feel very creative all the time. But I feel like in this new season of motherhood, I'm kind of looking for ways, new ways to stimulate that and to really tap into where I'm being pulled to next. Because I have loved what I've been doing the last eight years. But I'm also wondering, how do I continue to grow and to offer the world the gifts that I'm passionate about? So that's really exciting for me. Right now, the only way to work with me is to apply or join our mastermind.
So if you're a female entrepreneur and you really kind of fit that mold of wanting to connect, have an accountability group, and you want a session every Wednesday led by a mindset coach, a marketing coach, and really plugging into the most incredible group of humans, like the group where you go, hey, guys, I need to hire a va. Or, hey, I'm not being consistent on my TikTok, posting any advice and you're going to get responses. You're going to get feedback from people who have mastered what it is that you're struggling with. You will not go very far in business if you try to do this alone. I say this all the time, but it is your network that's going to get you far. You need to plug into groups of people who are also building and growing and who will refer you. This was a very unpolished episode, but I just wanted to show up, say hi. I'm doing this very imperfectly. Freddie on my lap. The house is a mess. The kitchen. I don't even know what's going on there. I do intend to clean it today. But this is the life that I've always dreamed of.
