383 Rebranding, Boundaries & Building a Business That Fits You

A behind-the-scenes look at the rebrand, new interviews, and what’s next.

Seven and a half years. Over 300 interviews. Countless solo episodes. And now, it feels like the podcast is ready for its next chapter.

In this episode, I share a preview of where the show is heading, why podcasting continues to feel like the most authentic way to connect, and how I’ve been rethinking what truly matters in the content I create.

I take you behind the scenes of the rebrand currently underway with new cover art and fresh interviews already recorded, while reflecting on the balance between saying “yes” to opportunities and protecting your energy. I also share a powerful quote that has reshaped how I view time and priorities.

Together, we’ll explore the importance of knowing when to move quickly with intention, when to slow down and create space, and how to avoid the “anxious middle” that leaves us feeling stuck.

Plus, I’ll highlight why I consistently invest 10% of my revenue into events and masterminds, and how that commitment has elevated both my business and mindset.

What you’ll learn in this episode:

  • Why podcasting still feels like the deepest, most authentic way to connect

  • How to know when it’s time to reimagine your creative projects

  • The “52 pick up” method I use for weekly goal-setting

  • Why September energy can make us overcommit (and how to check yourself before you say yes)

  • The difference between going fast, going slow, and getting lost in the anxious middle

Key Takeaways:

  • Stop living in the Anxious Middle

  • Your Business doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s

You're listening to the Visionary Life Podcast. I'm your host, Kelsey Reidl. Each week I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures, and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship. This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires. If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode, it's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us. You know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime. But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up. I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you.

    Kelsey [00:00:52]:

It's in you. It's in all of us. Let's dive in. Hey, visionaries. Welcome back to the show. I'm really excited to sit down and record. The podcast is kind of where I feel most at home with you guys. I sometimes feel resistant to sharing little snippets on Instagram and doing the short form content hustle thing.

    Kelsey [00:01:21]:

Feeling like I'm on a hamster wheel, having to create every day versus just being able to sit down and go deep with the people who want to go deep. I don't know, there's just something about podcasting for me in particular that just more aligns with my DNA. I don't know if it's like a personality thing or just where I feel my skill set is better suited or just the type of conversation that I'm able to have. I know right now we're kind of in this era where everyone's talking about the amount of AI slop on the Internet and just feeling concerned with where content creation is going. Because anyone can pop a prompt in ChatGPT and say, Create me 9065 pieces of content in the next five minutes and it'll do that for you. But. But it lacks the soul, it lacks the heart, the creativity, the storytelling, the personal experience, the insight. And that's all I really crave out of browsing content.

    Kelsey [00:02:26]:

Like, I don't want generic slop. And so I'm trying to figure out for myself too, how I cannot contribute to the ecosystem of crap content. And one of the ways that I think I can do that is by showing up here sometimes unscripted. You guys know I Also love to share interviews, and we have 300 of those in the archives. I have teaching episodes where I share, you know, three ways to boost your search engine optimization. So you can always scroll back and find episodes like that. But this is an episode like many others in the last year and a half, two years since I've transitioned, transitioned into motherhood, where the time that I have in front of me to record feels best suited to just sharing an honest update. Doing a solo show and kind of filling you guys in on what I think is the content that you come here for, which is just to feel less alone.

    Kelsey [00:03:29]:

Whether you're on an entrepreneurial journey, whether you're a mama, whether you are going through seasons of grief, like I have many times in my life, where. Whether you are looking for inspiration and motivation from somebody else. I mean, that's why I often pop earbuds into my ears because I just want to know what's going on in other people's minds and what are you guys thinking about and what stories do you have to tell me and, you know, any ruminations that feel like they could help just one other person. That's what I share on this show and that's what I've done for seven and a half years. So, speaking of seven and a half years, is there not something called like the seven year itch? I think people talk about that in relationships. Dave and I have been dating many more years than seven. I. I think we've been together almost 17 at this point.

    Kelsey [00:04:23]:

So anyways, I'm not referring to my relationship, but I'm referring to the podcast. I started to feel like, I don't know. As we move into a new season of the show, I'm currently prepping for season 16. I don't know if the identity of Visionary life is still the right fit for the podcast. You guys know I've been doing this since 2018. I fostered the concept for the show in 2017 at the end of the year with my friend, and it's remain unchanged. It's always focused on interviewing visionary entrepreneurs, people who are exciting and interested and have a story to share or a vision that inspired. Obviously, over the last two years, we've started recording so many more solo shows, which I have really loved.

    Kelsey [00:05:13]:

And like I mentioned earlier, I just, I enjoy just sitting down and connecting. But where this sits in my overall marketing funnel for the business is that really the podcast right now caters to kind of my insiders. You know, it's like people who know me who want to hear what's going on in life and health and family and business and, you know, just kind of know me and maybe want to know what's up. I mean, yes, new people find the show and it grows, but at the same time, I'm not really prioritizing growth of the show. I'm more just kind of just hanging out with you guys. So all this to say I started to feel like I needed a bit of a new vision as the show goes forward. And I think that goes with any project project that you've been pouring your heart and your soul into for so many years. For seven and a half years, I have barely ever missed a week because I.

    Kelsey [00:06:11]:

I love creating this show for you guys. I love getting feedback. I love knowing you're listening, that you're feeling inspired. And really, it's one of the things that brings me the most joy, selfishly. I get to sit down with really cool people, sometimes in person, sometimes virtually, and I just get to talk about things that interest me. I'm a curious person, so I get to ask people questions, and so it scratches my own itch. And then, you know, I get to share it, edit the episode, publish it, and have your listening ears on my conversations, and we get to make that public. So that if you're searching for content on the topics that I talk about, there's something for you to download and to queue up while you're running or walking the dog or doing dishes around the house or, you know, maybe your partner's away for the weekend and you just need a little company.

    Kelsey [00:07:01]:

And I love the show being that. But as I started to think about the concept of visionary life and is that still relevant? Of course it is. That's really the brand that, you know, that I started and I still feel so strongly connected to. But I wanted a bit of a new direction for the show. And I have this life philosophy. I'm not going to share it publicly yet because we are going to transition the show probably in about six weeks. And this life philosophy has followed me around, and it is something I bring into business, I bring into my athletic pursuits, and everything that I do, I have these three words that I say to myself, and it just kind of acts as, like a mantra, I would say. And the more I kept thinking about it, the more I thought, I think this could be a podcast series or a rebrand of the show.

    Kelsey [00:08:00]:

And you guys know, I set one goal a week. I have this 52 pickup method where each week I set one goal. It's usually one word or two. Words. And I just use that as a little bit of a filter for the week. So for an example, if my goal is sleep, then every single decision I make for the next seven days is like, okay, will this enhance my sleep or detract from it? So maybe somebody invites me out to a late night meeting or concert, and if that does not align with the quality of my sleep, I would say no. Maybe eating sugar before bed, I'd be like, you know what? This week I'm just gonna say no to the brownie before bed, because sleep. So that's just an example.

    Kelsey [00:08:42]:

And then by the end of the year, hopefully you have 52 areas of your life that you've improved, which is kind of cool, right? So simple. It's like the most unsexy goal setting method, but it kind of works. So a few months ago, I wrote down for one of the weeks, this is one where I didn't just have one word, but I basically just wrote down, like, what's the biggest risk I could take right now without sacrificing any aspect of the business? And this is when I was really ruminating on the topic of changing the podcast title and, and changing the theme. And I looked over at my sheet of paper that's right beside my desk and it said, what's the biggest risk you can take right now without sacrificing any area of the business? And I just thought, okay, like, that's it. This is not risk. Like, I'm not going to risk anything by changing the title and the COVID art and the theme of the podcast. And if, if I am, I'll just go back to Visionary Life. And all the signs just started to point to, like, just go for it, and if it doesn't feel aligned in six months, go back to the old way, the way that we currently do things.

    Kelsey [00:09:52]:

So I've reached out to a designer. She has been designing our new cover art and logo. I have started to record the interviews. I already have two in the bank. It's so funny because we were at my family cottage back in, I think it was the beginning of August and, and Dave and I were just chatting through some goals and I told him about this idea and he was like, okay, so like, what's the first step? And I said, well, I think I just need to, like, book a practice interview or do an interview as if the podcast has been rebranded and just see how it goes. And I actually had an interview coming up. It was for Visionary Life, but now it's for the new podcast and it was with the co founder of Awake Chocolate. Side note, they're a sponsor of our Wave Alora event in October.

    Kelsey [00:10:43]:

So make sure you grab your ticket because you'll be getting some chocolate in that swag bag, which is sweet. Chocolate's pretty much my favorite food, so. But yeah. So anyways, my interview was booked, I think that week we came back from the cottage and I was like, all right, like, this is the commitment I've made. I'm going to do this interview. It worse comes to worse, I have to edit out the show title if I decide not to change the show after all. And so I did it. I recorded it.

    Kelsey [00:11:12]:

I had a whole new set of questions. I put on this, like, you know, brave face of saying welcome back to the Blank podcast. And it was not visionary life. And yeah, I told the co founder of Awake all about it and he really resonated. And then I recorded another interview that will be airing. I told the person I was talking to, who's also a past client of mine, and she was like, yeah, like, this is totally it. It really resonates. She loved the logo.

    Kelsey [00:11:40]:

So even though I haven't like, shared too much about this project, I am working behind the scenes slowly but surely to revamp, rebrand. So if there's a few weeks where we either don't have a show or we have to re air old episodes, this is the reason, because we're pouring into what I hope is an upgraded version of the show. So, yeah, that is that. That's number one. What else? Oh my goodness. We're already seven days into September. At the time of recording this, I feel like there's so much back to school energy. And one thing that I'm being so cautious about is not to just like, get super busy because I've noticed that with September, there's a lot of plans, a lot of people want to visit and people traveling back to Ontario to meet up with and projects that start and invites to speak on panels and, you know, just there's birthdays, there's anniversaries, there's bachelorette parties.

    Kelsey [00:12:41]:

There's all of a sudden a lot going on after having more of a quiet August. And I'm really just trying to like, play this dance right now of like, I am, I am an extroverted person. Like, we all need alone time to recharge. I don't think that that defines an introvert or an extrovert, but you'll notice sometimes, like, if you're the type of person on an alone day, do you love to get out of the house and like find activities and find people to talk to or do you more just like retreat and you're quiet and you don't really plan things. So, yeah, I noticed myself, like, I'm always out and about. I'm always looking for, you know, things, activities to do. Like, even this morning I was alone with Freddie and first I invited my dad over and then I took Freddie to the bike park and we biked around and just had like a very full morning. But those are the type of things that light me up.

    Kelsey [00:13:32]:

But I'm really trying to toggle between right now, like for. I say being home, but that doesn't mean just like being at my house. It's just having time to just be present with whatever comes up that is the most important thing to me right now. I work two days a week. I am with my son. And that to me is like the most amazing, beautiful balance I could ever ask for. And I work my ass off on those two days. And I really, really have to focus and dial in and not waste a minute.

    Kelsey [00:14:06]:

But that's fine because I feel like the trade off is then me having three days with him during the week where I still get a. I'd say two to three hours of work in on those days, but it'll either be morning nap time or night when I fit it in. But yeah, so it's kind of this dance right now between everything I get asked to do, I have to say like, is this a Hell yes. Because the last thing I want to do is just kind of like fall into this trap of busy. I. I really, really cringe. There's some people in my life who. They're always saying how busy they are and they're almost resentful of it.

    Kelsey [00:14:48]:

And I always want to say, like, does it have to be this way? And then. But then when I do say things like that, they're like, yeah, like, there's no way out of this. And so I'm always thinking like, well, you know, if we really reel back to, like, why is your schedule so full and do all of these things bring you joy? And is there any way to live more in the moment and have that unscheduled time? Or like, does it have to be a giant hustle with, you know, 90 birthday parties and 80 activities and evenings out and all this stuff. So I've recorded a few episodes about time, time bending how I look at time, how priorities can really help you to make clear decisions and give hell yeses or, you know, crisp No's. And yeah, I feel like September for me is this challenge of I've said yes to a lot. I'm already starting to think, oh, how do I back out of some of these things? But yeah, and maybe this is a reminder for you too, to just like, before you say yes to absolutely everything, say, I'll get back to you. Give it one to two days to breathe, to chat it through with yourself and with others and to really give. Give out yeses when they feel really exciting in your bones.

    Kelsey [00:16:09]:

So, yeah, this is also a reminder to me because I have some plants coming up that I'm like, oh, no. So, yeah, I mean, we're in September. I feel like it's a month of routines, of habits. I've been thinking about trying to reinstate a morning routine, but I still feel like I'm in that season of, you know, my son wakes me up like 7 or 6:45am and that's just what's going on right now. Like, I prioritize that sleep versus waking up to just do stuff. I know I could really use an hour in the morning to jot down some feelings, catch up on work, meditate, maybe do a little bit of movement. Maybe it's just sit and have a quiet coffee. But also I'm like, I don't know, like, is.

    Kelsey [00:16:56]:

Does every season have to be the morning routine season? Because right now I have none. Like, I have a routine once Freddy's up. Like, you know, we make coffee and our breakfast and we usually get outside for a bit and la la. But yeah, I don't know if you guys have suggestions or please share your morning routines with me because I am very curious and I always like learning what other people are up to. And that's why I listen to podcasts. That's why I love to get out to events and networking. Because, gosh, like, if there's something that I don't have figured out in life, I know that just by going to a really cool event, I can probably absorb through, you know, just being around other amazing entrepreneurs, other people, other inspiring humans. Like, I can find the answers to everything.

    Kelsey [00:17:40]:

And so on that topic too, I feel like event season is back. This is exciting. Actually, I'm speaking at a couple events coming up. I'll be at the Resorts Ontario conference in about a week, which is crazy. I'm still building that presentation and finalizing my speaker's notes, speaking to hundreds of resorts owners around Ontario, which is awesome. And I'm talking about search engine optimization and ranking on chat GPT and all the things they need to consider in order to have a strong online presence. And then I'll also be speaking on a panel at Den 1880 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. This is with two real estate professionals who host these networking and professional development development nights.

    Kelsey [00:18:28]:

So this one's on the topic of marketing, specifically AI and marketing and how they intersect. And I'll be on a panel discussion so if you want info about either of those, message me on Instagram. Happy to share more about those. But this is also the season two where we are planning our own event. So we've got Wave Laura coming up on Thursday, October 30th. We've locked in our speakers which is so exciting. And if you are curious, head to kelseyridle.com Elora this is like the opposite of a stiff, uncomfortable and draining networking event. So if you're a female entrepreneur and you've been feeling like, like you know, I just need to get out, but I need it to be a good time, a good vibe.

    Kelsey [00:19:14]:

We would love to welcome you to this event. We're 50 sold out and it is a day filled with inspiration, with delicious eats, with gorgeous views of the Elora Gorge because we're at the Elora Mill and you're gonna have 60 high caliber collection connections to walk away with which is so amazing. Like these are the networking events that I love to be part of because they don't feel super forced, they're not in a weird ballroom and you're not exchanging business cards. You are instead facilitating conversations both with the people at the table we put you with. We do curated networking groups where we'll send you into smaller pods. There will be four guest speakers slash panelists that you're going to hear from. There's going to be live creative activations that because the theme is creativity and soul, there's going to be entertainment. We are closing out with a performance and yeah, you're gonna just feel like you have so much support in your entrepreneurial journey wherever you are.

    Kelsey [00:20:20]:

Um, and so yeah, we're excited because we have cool speakers such as Courtney Fonseca. She is the founder of Hustle and Flow. She's a heart led entrepreneur, a devoted mother, a student of life and, and she's so passionate about creating spaces and experience that center self discovery, self discovery, empowerment and intentional living. And she's just such an incredible human. She's brought a lot of projects to light including Den 1880 which is a co working and connection space. Hustle and Flow which is her wellness collective and she'll be sharing a lot of the journey of how creative entrepreneurs can stay soul centered on while pursuing change and she's gone through a lot of that. We have Jen Mansell. She's a breathwork facilitator.

    Kelsey [00:21:09]:

She's going to be guiding you guys through some breath work. She'll be talking about how to grow a six figure business as you stay creative and soul led. So get excited for that. Jen is a master breathwork facilitator. She's a mentor, she's a somatic coach and she's really devoted to helping people reconnect with the innate wisdom of their bodies and of their nervous systems. She's actually spoken inside of the wave group before and there was nothing but rave reviews. Yeah, we have Chris Clark too. He's performing.

    Kelsey [00:21:43]:

He is an emerging artist hailing from Ontario. So I think you guys are gonna absolutely love what you see here. So grab your ticket. Really excited to have you all there. And yeah, these tickets will sell out, so make sure you snag yours. I'm also really excited because I am going to the High Vibe Women. If you live in Ontario, this is such an incredible community. I've been to their brunches before.

    Kelsey [00:22:12]:

They are so just like soul moving because you're gonna walk into the room and meet a bunch of other heart led entrepreneurs like yourself. And if you don't live near where I live, I hope that you can find a community like this because in my experience, events, connection opportunities with others who are on this growth path. It is the needle mover and I don't just say that. I just know I would be nowhere. I would not have met the business partners I've met. I would not be running events, I would not be hosting a mastermind. I would not have had the clarity that I have in my consulting business. I would not have the network of people to have interviewed 300 business owners on the podcast if I didn't get out and meet people and it like you guys, it feels hard to buy a fricking ticket to commit the time.

    Kelsey [00:23:11]:

Especially now that I'm a mom. I don't want to be away on weekends. I don't want to. You know, at the beginning of this summer I flew to Las Vegas to go to the Horosi event. That was hard for me, but I knew it would move the needle. Going to the High Vibe Women brunch. That again, hard for me. I don't love being away on weekends especially, but some of these events, they are on weekends.

    Kelsey [00:23:36]:

We chose to do ours on a Thursday because we wanted you to not miss your weekends with your family. But yeah, it's a conscious choice for me because every time I have gone out to an event, I have come back with new connections, new media opportunities, I've landed clients. So much good has come from them that I am very convicted that this is the needle mover for so many of you, especially those of you who are feeling disenchanted with Instagram, with whatever online marketing. You're feeling disconnected because you're not chatting with humans, you're not making real connections. And getting out face to face is one way to just blast through the non intimacy that the Internet provides. Like Instagram's amazing, guys. I love it. I love chatting with you, but it's not.

    Kelsey [00:24:25]:

I don't feel like I'm actually like making a friend for life. Whereas when I get out to events, that is more the feeling. So you guys know, and I've talked about this all the time. I reinvest a minimum of 10 of my annual revenue in going to events and in professional development. And I commit to minimum of like one big event where I fly somewhere per year. A couple years ago it was Park City, Utah. Last year it was Las Vegas. I don't know where I'm going next, you know, just whatever pops up.

    Kelsey [00:24:59]:

I don't have anything in mind. I invest in one mastermind every single year. Right now I'm part of Chris and Lori Harder's Mastermind. Last year I was part of the Beyond Curious Community Mastermind. Prior to that, I was part of the Archangel Mastermind Hit Makers with Michael Rodrick. I could go on and on. I host our own Wave Mastermind. These are the places where I really feel like things move forward because you're meeting with a mastermind usually weekly, sometimes twice monthly.

    Kelsey [00:25:29]:

And it's just so important to get out of your own little bubble and, and make sure that you are not an isolated business owner. Because, you know, we're not meant to do this alone. I think I've shared this before, but I had a Reiki session about five, six years ago when I was feeling really just like stagnant. I'm like, what's missing? Why am I feeling like I'm hitting a wall and I can't break through it? And the girl who was giving me the Reiki, she said, kelsey, you're not meant to do this alone. And I really felt that in my body. And I'm like, I need to change this. You know, I need to hire help. I need to find the contractors who can move this forward, hire the coach, join the group, and stop being so independent.

    Kelsey [00:26:13]:

Because that would be my nature is to just like, I'll figure it out. I don't need to meet people. I don't need to connect. But, you know, that's kind of the secret sauce to making this beautiful entrepreneurial network. Just think if you fast forwarded, you've grown your business for 20 years, you finally land a book deal, and you have to get people to write the blurbs on the back of your book or on the front of your book. Who are you going to ask? Do you have people who have risen up with you? Do you have friends who are in this space? Do you have a group of entrepreneurs? Because that is the number one thing that will prevent you from quitting is feeling like you're not alone. You have people to lean on. You have people who cheer you on, who shout you out, who supports support your program launches, who literally refer you 50% of your clients.

    Kelsey [00:27:02]:

So. So, yeah, it's a biggie. So, yeah, I just thought I would share kind of what my focus is going into the fall and why I invest in stuff like this. So, yeah, that's a little bit of an update, you guys. I thought I would just end on a Twitter quote or X tweet that caught my attention. It's by Charles Miller, and he says, anxiety happens in the middle. And then the quote says, spend a handful of hours a day going fast. Crush a gym session.

    Kelsey [00:27:35]:

Do deep work on a project you care about. Spend the rest of your day going slow. Take walks, read books, get a long dinner with friends. Either way, avoid the anxious middle where you never truly relax or you never truly move forward. Oh, I think that's so juicy. And I want to know as an end to this podcast, do you feel like you need more of the going fast time or do you need more of the going slow time? I'll start. I go fast a lot and I suck at going slow. I think that I could incorporate that slow time weather.

    Kelsey [00:28:19]:

I need to wake up 30 minutes before Freddy, perhaps. Or really prioritize getting off my phone in the evenings and, like, have a reading ritual or getting back to walking my dog. I don't know. When you have kids, sometimes you forget to walk the dog some days, but I love doing that. The long, slow coffees or you don't have to be anywhere. Look at your clock. I am guilty of it. I'm always like, what time is it? I gotta go to the next activity.

    Kelsey [00:28:43]:

What time is it? So, yeah, I really Liked that quote. I just thought it kind of hit me hard and I loved that. Like, what if we could just, I don't want to say live at the extremes because that's not it. But like, yeah, it's like, what if you can. This is kind of how I approach my work week, right? I go fast two days a week and then for the rest of my week I just go slow with work because that to me feels better than dawdling five days a week and just working Monday to Friday because everybody else does. I refuse to resubscribe to that five day work week because at this point in my business, my business goals, where I'm at with everything, I believe I can accomplish what most people accomplish in five days, in two days, which I think is so cool. Yeah. And it would not be the right schedule for everyone.

    Kelsey [00:29:39]:

But what I want to share here is that like, if you are the master of your calendar and your time, what are some crazy things you could do to make the work week and make the life of your dreams? Because it doesn't have to look like it looks for 95 of the world who you know are on a five day work week because of the industrial revolution. So. All right, you guys, that is it for today. Thanks for staying with my musings. I love you guys so much. If you have feedback on what I shared about the rebrand, about anything that I mentioned in today's episode, please reach out. Love hearing from you. And yeah, I will see you guys in the next episode.

    Kelsey [00:30:24]:

Hey, visionary. The search engine game is changing fast. I mean, how many times now do you open up ChatGPT where you used to actually just open Google or Bing? AI driven tools like ChatGPT are rewriting the rules of what it is to play the digital marketing game. But don't panic. You just need to pivot ever so slightly if you want to rank your business in ChatGPT. And if I could just interject for a second and go off script, I am getting so many leads these days who are saying to me, I found you on ChatGPT. So here's the deal. You guys know I'm passionate about SEO.

    Kelsey [00:31:02]:
