What is it like to work with a Marketing Coach? | Kelsey Reidl, Private Business and Marketing Coach

If you're a business owner, you know that marketing is essential for your long-term success and continued growth.

But what if you don't have the time or knowledge to do it yourself?

A private marketing coach can help!

Coaches work with you one-on-one to create a customized growth plan that fits your business's unique needs and goals.

From Weight Loss Coaches to Scuba Diving Coaches to Speaking Coaches - it’s safe to say that one of the most effective ways to learn and refine a new skill quickly is to work with a trained coach who can support you.

Have you ever worked with a coach before?

If you nodded yes, then you know exactly how powerful and effective the coaching process can be!

And if you nodded no, then you’re in for a treat whenever you do have the ability to invest in coaching.

Especially if you’re able to find a coach that understands where you are now and where you want to go, and can build you the bridge to get there efficiently.

What is a Marketing Coach?

First, let’s talk about the word ‘coach’

I’m certain that you’ve heard and seen this word thrown around in every industry, but what exactly does a coach do?

A coach is an experienced professional who can advise you on the most effective path for reaching your goals, no matter how big they are or how blocked you might feel.

In addition to that, a coach will also support you in developing and implementing a clear action plan so that you see results in a much quicker time frame than if you were to navigate the journey yourself.

As a small business, you are always looking for ways to market yourself and stand out from the competition - but sometimes you just feel lost and overwhelmed (or like you’ve hit a wall!)

That's where a Marketing Coach comes in.

Marketing coaches are experienced professionals who can help you develop and implement an effective marketing plan and brainstorm new strategies that meet your specific business needs and goals.

A private marketing coach is just like having a Private Tour Guide to show you around a city that you’ve never been to before!

By hiring that tour guide to whisk you around, you get a better experience, you learn about all of the ‘secret spots’ that the guidebooks don’t know about, and you accomplish more sightseeing in less time.

A Marketing Coach will have 100’s of ‘secret spots’ in their back pocket that they can show you right away and over the course of your time working together.

So, if you're looking for help getting your business off the ground or want to take your marketing efforts to the next level, a marketing coach may be just what you need.

Who should work with a Marketing Coach?

Clients work with a Marketing Coach when they are stuck in one place too long, are frustrated with their marketing and growth plan, or when they have an idea for their business but don’t know how to market it.

When you work with a Marketing Coach you will work together on creating an effective Marketing Plan that works for your unique business.

Together with your Coach, you will create strategies based on the 4 core pillars of Marketing and you will be taught the 9 principles of Marketing Mastery, so you can start moving forward again. This means less frustration and more confidence in your ability to succeed in business for years to come!

Here are some other signs that it might be time to hire a Private Business and Marketing Coach…

  • You're dealing with unpredictable lead generation (you never know when the next client will sign...)

  • You've found yourself saying "I'm just not great at marketing my business" and it’s starting to hold you back from growth

  • You have variable month-to-month revenue (wouldn't it be nice if it was predictably higher!?)

  • You're not confident in how to showcase your services, because it feels like self-promotion

  • Non-existence of a promotional strategy (you're winging it right now)⠀

  • You know that nothing will change unless you have someone or something to be accountable to

Nearly all businesses can benefit from a Marketing Coach if they’re looking to get more visible and to work with more clients.

What is it like to work with a Private Marketing Coach?

Each private business and marketing coach has a different package that they offer to their clients. Some are 6 month packages, some are 3 months and some are customized based on your needs.

In my experience of working with 200+ private clients over the years, I’ve found that 10 private sessions is the optimal amount in order to get maximum results from our time together.

Therefore, my clients can choose to meet with me 1x/week for 10 weeks consecutively OR I offer the option to meet bi-weekly (2x/month) for a total of 20 weeks.

During our time together, my clients are challenged to think differently about how they can connect with clients and reach more people, and they are supported as they test new and exciting marketing strategies.

They leave each session with a list of action items and a clearly defined set of next steps, so that nothing is left to chance.

As a Marketing Coach, it is my responsibility to manage the progress of my clients.

To do this, I will track all communications and ongoing projects through a private project management software that my client and I both have access to.

My clients can ask me questions and request feedback at any point during our time together, and I act as a true partner to them in achieving their next level of growth.

Working with a Private Business and Marketing Coach is going to accelerate the rate at which you achieve your objectives in a fun, challenging and productive way.

How does Marketing Coaching work?

Marketing Coaching begins with a comprehensive one hour Bonus Call where your coach will dig into exactly what’s been going on in your business up until this moment.

Some of the topics addressed in your first call will include:

What’s been working, what hasn’t been working, where are clients finding out about you, what are they saying about you, is your service communicated clearly, are there any immediate areas of opportunity, etc.

From there, your coach is responsible for clarifying the end result and then reverse-engineering the best path forward.

After your first session, you will be given some initial assignments to get started on.

You’ll also begin tracking your success metrics right away and then each week, we will review the most effective strategies that have been implemented.

Clients should be able to message their coach in between sessions for support, review and encouragement.

How can you find the right Marketing Coach for your business?

When you’re looking for a Private Marketing Coach, the most important thing to keep in mind is that you’ll be working very closely with this person for many months, perhaps even the better part of a year, so it’s vital that you hire someone that you can trust.

Most Marketing Coaches will offer a Free Discovery Call so that you can speak with them and see if there’s a good fit and a strong connection between you (or not!).

Some other things to keep in mind when looking for a Marketing Coach…

What types of Core Values do you hold when it comes to business and does your Marketing Coach have similar values? Don’t be afraid to ask!

It’s ok to interview 2 or 3 coaches before making a decision. Not all coaches have the same ‘coaching style’ which is why it’s important to meet with a few coaches before making a selection. For example, my coaching style is Direct, Motivational and Update - but that’s not the style for everyone!

What is your budget? Since coaching is an unregulated industry, there are coaches that charge $100s of dollars and coaches that charge $10,000 dollars so it’s important to define your budget and know what you’re willing to spend.

Do you need to work with someone in a similar location to you: perhaps you’re looking for a Marketing Coach that understands the Canadian market (aka a Private Business and Marketing Coach in Canada) or perhaps you need someone who understands Australian E-Commerce!

What else can a Marketing Coach do for your business?

Marketing is an ever-evolving landscape, and it’s important that you choose a Marketing Coach who can teach you the principles of marketing so that you can apply them for years to come.

In addition, you want to ensure that your Marketing Coach has a variety of proven tools that they use and implement with their clients.

For example, is your Private Business Coach skilled in areas like…

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

  • Social Media Strategy

  • Gaining More Visibility

  • Accelerating your Online Business Growth

  • Deepening Relationships with Strategic Partners

  • Email Newsletters & List-Building

  • Lead Generation

  • Website Conversions

  • Referral and Word-Of-Mouth

  • Marketing Campaign Creation and Execution

  • Strategic Content Creation & Annual Content Planning

Finally, a Marketing Coach can give you the confidence to break out of your current rut and actually hit a new level in your business.

There is nothing that compares to having a personalized plan created specifically for success in your unique business, and having someone who can guide you through it every step of the way.

Have you been thinking about working with a Marketing Coach?
